My name is Becky George, in 2020 I was appointed to be a Makaton Ambassador, which means I work closely with the charity on a range of projects. I have been a Makaton Tutor since 2011 and run freelance training for a range of settings.
I have trained Early Years settings, Specialist Education settings, Adult supported Living settings, Dementia homes as well as bespoke training for settings such at the London Transport Museum (and a few celebrity families!)
I also run open courses which means I get to meet a wonderful range of people wanting to learn Makaton. This includes parents, sibling, grandparents and a wide range of staff.
I love teaching Makaton it is wonderful to see confidence build throughout a workshop. I like to support all my students to becoming Makaton tutors if they are interested in that which means I work closely with the Makaton charity to do this.
In 2015 I joined a group in North London called WAVE (we’re all valued equally), they invited me to their monthly church services for young people and adults with additional needs to sign along to their songs in Makaton. This has opened up a whole new world for me and Makaton as I now create resources for groups to use and have a YouTube channel with signed songs, readings & liturgy to help encourage services to be more inclusive.
